New York City has provided the backdrop for many of the greatest movements in modern music. The city is a true melting pot, with a diverse range of cultural influences on art and expression. From opera to jazz to blues to modern pop and hip hop, New York has been instrumental in the evolution of music. Another defining NYC trait is our beloved Broadway. NYC has been the heart of music and acting on stage since 1750 when Thomas Kean and Walter Murray opened one of the first theatres in New York City on Nassau Street. It was large enough to hold 280 patrons and the actors performed Shakespearian plays and operatic theater. Popular music trends and actors will continue to change over time, but they will always have a home in New York City.
