Jacob W. Davis came up with denim jeans to fit someone that couldn’t wear them off the rack per se. Jacob couldn’t afford to patent his jeans, so he turned to Levis Strauss. In the 1890’s Levi’s 501 jeans were made. It was introduced as functional work pants, but it evolved into one of the most iconic items in fashion. The denim jean is symbolic of American culture.
